Walk with Us! Now that we're finished with the two-year study, we are opening up the walking group to everyone. We will be holding two free, no-host walks* every week:

-
Tuesdays, 8:30 AM, Miller Park (meet at covered pavilion; starting June 10)
-
Fridays, 9 AM, library (meet in Maple Street parking lot)

We'll have a five-minute grace period for late arrivals, and then set off on a 30-60 minute walk. Everyone is welcome!
*These community walks are not sponsored by the library.

History. Siuslaw Public Library has just finished participating in a two-year study with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) to promote walking in the community. Twenty rural libraries from around Oregon were selected for the program, and each library recruited a group of community members to participate in the study. Each group walks weekly, and half the libraries (including ours) were chosen to do a "Change Club" curriculum and project in addition to the weekly walk.

Grant Project. Our group received a grant from OHSU to promote or improve walking in the community. Each library group got to choose and implement their own project. We have created a local walking map with assistance from City of Florence, and we held three community walks in 2024.

Walking Map. As part of the OHSU grant, we developed a new local walking paths and trails map. Download the PDF here or look for copies around town!
